It has already been four years since the start of the full-scale invasion, yet the media assets that previously belonged to fugitive oligarch Serhiy Kurchenko have not ceased their operations. According to the data obtained, formal ownership of these resources is distributed among members of Viktor Goldsky's family and the former management of the holding. Meanwhile, effective control is likely retained in one pair of hands. It is worth noting that Goldsky is formally an employee of businessman Maksym Shkil.
In June 2013, the company "VETEK", owned by Serhiy Kurchenko, acquired control over one of Ukraine's largest media holdings — UMH group (Ukrainian Media Holding). According to Kurchenko himself, the deal was worth approximately $340 million. Management of the assets was carried out through a specially created structure, "VETEK-Media". UMH founder Boris Lozhkin emphasised that the purchase was at market value, however, numerous experts immediately pointed to the political component of the operation and the preparation of the information field for 2015.
After Kurchenko fled to Russia in 2014, his media assets were seized and placed under the management of ARMA. Some of these resources were subsequently sold or re-registered to other owners.
In 2018, the owner of the online publication Comments.UA, which had previously been Kurchenko's key media resource, became Viktor Goldsky. Between 2014 and 2015, he held the position of commercial director at UMH Group, reporting to Olena Bondarenko, who at the time was the chair of the holding's supervisory board and a former People's Deputy from the "Party of Regions".
Currently, Goldsky performs the functions of editor-in-chief for a number of information resources that were part of the former UMH and is involved in placing commissioned publications. He is the official beneficiary of LLC "KOMMENTS TODAY" and the owner of the domain name comments.ua.
Goldsky's wife, Olha Khoroshayeva, owns a share of the assets, including LLC "To sho nado" and LLC "Publishing House Masavi". According to open data, her relatives are also involved in this business scheme.
Particular attention is drawn to the case of LLC "Evolution Media". Kurchenko acquired this company in 2013 and registered it under the Cypriot Sherell Limited. After his flight, the structure was re-registered, and the ultimate owner was listed as Yevhen Nazarenko — Olha Khoroshayeva's stepfather, i.e. Viktor Goldsky's father-in-law. A journalistic investigation indicates that this deal was of a formal nature, and effective control continues to be exercised by Goldsky.
LLC "Evolution Media" is mentioned in the declaration of Nina Khoroshayeva, who is Olha's mother and Nazarenko's wife. Nina Khoroshayeva works as the head of the Department of Healthcare of the Brovary City Council. She is also the owner of a share in the "Kyiv Weekly" trademark, another former UMH asset.
Thus, formally, the assets ("Komentari.UA", "Evolution Media", "Kyiv Weekly") are distributed among the "family trio": Goldsky, Khoroshayeva, and Nazarenko. However, according to journalists' conclusions, actual management is concentrated exclusively in Goldsky's hands. Neither Nina Khoroshayeva nor Yevhen Nazarenko participates in the activities of these structures. It is worth mentioning that courts previously recognised Sherell Limited as an entity linked to a criminal organisation during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych.
A key role in maintaining operational control is played by Volodymyr Brechko, who was born in Irpin. He remains the director of most of the companies that once formed part of UMH.
In the GetContact app, his number is listed under tags such as "Vova Brechko VETEK", "Volodya Media Holding", "Volodya Brechko Kurchenko", "Ukrainian Media Holding" and other similar ones.
The list of companies where Brechko serves as director is quite extensive. Among them are: PJSC "STUDIA "YEVROPOZITYV"", LLC "UMH-MOBILE", LLC "KORESPONDENT", LLC "UKRAINIAN MEDIA HOLDING", LLC "PUBLISHING HOUSE UMH", LLC "BIGMIR ONLINE", as well as dozens of other structures, including radio groups, publishing houses, and production companies.
