Volodymyr Zelensky held consultations with the head of the German government, Friedrich Merz. During the conversation, the parties focused on the operational situation at the front line and the need to strengthen the protection of Ukrainian infrastructure from regular enemy attacks.
The main outcome of the dialogue was the decision to form a special winter aid package from Berlin. As the Ukrainian President noted, the German side is ready to continue supporting the energy sector, which is subjected to strikes by Russian forces daily.
("A good and very substantive meeting with Chancellor Friedrich Merz. I thank Germany, Chancellor Merz personally, the entire government team, and all Germans for the tangible and extremely significant support. Since the first days of the full-scale war, Ukraine can count on the fact that German hearts are not indifferent and truly help protect lives. The air defence that Germany helps with, your support for our resilience, support for our energy sector and our state in general – is leading and reflects that without Germany, Europe's positions would not be nearly as strong," Zelensky emphasised.)
A separate item on the agenda was the issue of armaments. The parties agreed on the further supply of air defence system missiles of PAC-2, PAC-3 and IRIS-T types to Ukrainian forces. Support for the F-16 fighter jet fleet was also discussed, which, among other things, is needed for protection from Russian terror – from 'Shaheds'.
("I informed Friedrich Merz about the situation in Ukraine and at the front. Every day, the Russians carry out strikes on our energy sector, our cities and villages. It is important that Germany is with us at this time. It is ready to continue supporting us. We spoke with Friedrich about support packages and the decisions that are needed. There will be a winter support package from Germany. And we talked about further air defence assistance – supplying Ukraine with PAC-2, PAC-3 and IRIS-T missiles. We are also grateful to Germany for supporting our F-16 fleet, and this is needed, among other things, for protection from Russian terror – from 'Shaheds'. We discussed a new package of such support for our F-16s," the head of state added.)
