Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported on the consequences of a massive shelling, during which facilities critical for the functioning of the nuclear energy sector were damaged. He paid particular attention to the attack on a substation on which the stable operation of the Khmelnytskyi NPP depends.

Details of the massive strike

Partners were informed during a meeting with ambassadors from G7 countries, the EU, and the NB8. Shmyhal noted that Russia used 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles, and 59 cruise missiles. The main targets were again energy facilities: power plants, as well as substations of electricity transmission and distribution systems.

Threat to nuclear safety

The minister emphasised that the enemy directed three drones at a substation that is critically important for the stable operation of the Khmelnytskyi NPP. According to him, these actions pose a threat not only to Ukraine but also to the nuclear safety of all of Europe.

«Це серйозний крок ескалації, про який ми проінформували МАГАТЕ» ("This is a serious step in escalation, which we have informed the IAEA about"), the minister added.

Shmyhal stressed that Ukraine expects an adequate response from international partners to the further escalation of Russian attacks on infrastructure that ensures the stable operation of Ukrainian NPPs.
