The official confirmation of the death of defender Oleksandr Kondrashchuk, callsign “Mekhal”, arrived on 23 October 2026. The serviceman of the 100th Separate Mechanized Brigade had been considered missing in action since 13 June of the same year. He was killed in the area of the settlement of Kostiantynivka in Kramatorsk district of Donetsk region.

Path from Bakhmut to drone piloting

The tragic loss was reported by the commander of the platoon of logistical and evacuation unmanned ground complexes of the 100th OMBr. According to him, Oleksandr Kondrashchuk had been defending Ukraine since 2022.

«Ми поступово закінчуємось. Ті, хто прийшли на захист України в 2022. Він один з перших в нашій бригаді знищив ворога у стрілецькому бою під Бахмутом. Вагнерівець, ніби зомбі після черги з РПК знову піднявся і не добіг до окопу буквально десять метрів» (We are gradually running out. Those who came to defend Ukraine in 2022. He was one of the first in our brigade to destroy the enemy in a firefight near Bakhmut. A Wagnerite, like a zombie after a burst from an RPK, got up again and did not quite make it to the trench, just ten metres away), — recalled the commander.

The next stage of the fighter's combat path was Kupyansk, the Serebriansky Forest, and the Pokrovsk direction. In Novokalynove, Oleksandr sustained a severe injury, which led to restrictions on continuing service due to his health condition. Despite this, he did not leave the ranks of the Armed Forces, returning to positions in Konstas, where he initially operated as part of an air defence unit and later became a reconnaissance drone pilot.

Severe injury and return to service

According to city council data, in May 2024, Oleksandr sustained a severe injury. For a certain period, he underwent treatment and rehabilitation in Lutsk. Despite what he had been through, he returned to military service, once again standing in the ranks of the infantry, and later mastered the profession of an unmanned aerial vehicle operator.

«Міна. Не повезло. Вірніше вичерпав за 4,5 роки свій ліміт солдатського фарту. Хоча міг залишитись в тилу. Доброволець. Повторно. Він виконав свій обовʼязок за себе і за "того хлопця" сповна. Такий він був щирий і справжній» (A mine. Bad luck. Or rather, he exhausted his limit of soldier's luck in 4.5 years. Although he could have stayed in the rear. A volunteer. Again. He fulfilled his duty for himself and for "that guy" fully. That is how sincere and genuine he was), — noted the platoon commander.

In total, Oleksandr Kondrashchuk spent 4.5 years in combat. In 2026, he assumed the position of squad leader — commander of the unmanned aerial complex crew.

During his service, Oleksandr distinguished himself by conscientiousness and dedication to military duty, receiving a number of awards. Among them:
