Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described how Russia reacted to Kyiv's attempts to consolidate a peaceful regime. According to him, following the successful humanitarian operation to evacuate residents of Oleshky, the Ukrainian side proposed to Moscow to extend and expand the silence regime. However, instead of a constructive response, the occupiers carried out a series of attacks, including a destructive strike on the settlement of Komyshevaha in Zaporizhzhia region.
Details of conversation with German Chancellor
The head of state disclosed this information while speaking with journalists, mentioning his conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The relevant video clip appeared on the president's official YouTube channel.
Zelensky emphasised that he had informed the German politician in detail about the current situation in Ukraine, specifically regarding the dynamics at the front and daily Russian strikes on energy infrastructure, cities and villages.
«Кожного дня росіяни завдають своїх ударів по нашій енергетиці, по наших містах і наших селах. Сьогодні вночі був черговий масований удар. Були крилаті ракети, була балістика, були сотні дронів» (Every day the Russians carry out their strikes on our energy sector, on our cities and our villages. Tonight there was another massive strike. There were cruise missiles, there were ballistic missiles, there were hundreds of drones), – the president said.
Tragedy in Komyshevaha
Volodymyr Zelensky paid particular attention to the events in Komyshevaha, where a rescue operation has been ongoing for the second day after airstrikes. The day before, the enemy attacked the settlement several times using guided aerial bombs.
According to the president, 33 people died as a result of one of these strikes. Five others were saved, but more than 50 people, according to him, may still be trapped under the rubble.
«Страшний удар, одне з найбільших російських вбивств цієї війни» (A terrible strike, one of the largest Russian killings of this war), – he noted.
Connection with operation in Oleshky
The President linked the attack on Komyshevaha with previous events in Oleshky. Ukraine had proposed to extend and expand the ceasefire that allowed the evacuation of people from that settlement.
«Ми пропонували Росії продовжити і розширити тишу, яка дозволила вивезти людей з Олешок. Але у відповідь ось це, ось така атака» (We proposed to Russia to extend and expand the silence that allowed us to evacuate people from Oleshky. But in response, here it is, such an attack), – Zelensky emphasised.
Recall that on 3 November, Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Berlin. There he held a meeting with Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The visit programme also includes a meeting with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Bundestag President Julia Klöckner.
