Discovery of illegal dump in protected area

On the Osokorky meadows, near the first lock, residents of the capital encountered an unpleasant phenomenon — an illegal dump of household waste. Among the discarded items, an old refrigerator, furniture remnants, and blankets were found. Particular attention from the public was drawn to postal boxes that retained the data of the person who brought them.

Information about the find was published on the social network Facebook, accompanied by photographs of the mentioned area and the boxes. The author of the post noted that the visual evidence requires no additional comments:

«Колеса, коробки, холодильник і багато іншого [непотребу] воно вирішило вивезти. Просто не розумію, що у цих "поганих людей" в голові» ("Wheels, boxes, a refrigerator, and a lot of other [junk] it decided to take away. I simply do not understand what is in the heads of these 'bad people'"), — wrote the post's author.

Identification of the culprit

Thanks to the data on the postal packaging, internet users established the identity of the person who brought the trash. It turned out to be Oleksandr Chaichenko. Judging by his Facebook profile, the man is an official at the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Ukraine. It is also known that since 1998 he has worked as a state handball coach and publishes photos of his holidays in an exotic country on his page.

It appears that the owner of the trash attempted to avoid paying for household waste removal services, which are usually provided by municipal services, but the left-behind postal data allowed him to be identified.

Context of the environmental issue

The Osokorky meadows are a protected zone in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv. For several years, a conflict has been ongoing around this territory between eco-activists and developers. The appearance of a dump of household items in this locality is regarded as another example of the careless attitude of some Kyiv residents towards the preservation of the natural environment, despite the efforts of the public to keep it clean.
