Scale of the seventh training cycle
The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to implement a psychological support and resilience recovery programme for personnel with the assistance of NATO. According to official data, the seventh training cycle of the aforementioned project took place in September and October 2026.
During this period, specialists organised 34 field trainings, which were held directly at military units. Approximately 1,100 service members of various categories acquired stress management skills.
Practical methods of self-help and peer support
The main objective of the programme is to reduce the psychological load caused by prolonged combat operations and constant tension. The training structure combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises.
Participants learn to recognise acute stress reactions, manage their own emotions under high pressure, and provide immediate support to their comrades. Particular attention is paid to developing skills in emotional self-regulation and psychological peer support within units.
In addition to group sessions, the programme provides individual consultations for military personnel who require professional psychological assistance. This approach allows not only to restore the condition of individual fighters but also to maintain the operational capacity of military collectives while carrying out combat missions.
Organisational aspects of the project
Overall coordination of actions is ensured by the Main Directorate for Psychological Support of Personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The direct implementation of training activities is undertaken by the public organisation "Officers' League", which has been working in the field of psychological assistance to service members since 2014.
The project is implemented within the framework of the NATO Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine. The initiative is a component of measures aimed at the psychological preparation and support of Ukrainian military personnel in the context of prolonged armed aggression by Russia.
Context of systemic support
Previously, the Ministry of Defence developed a five-tier system of psychological support, which is intended to cover all stages of service — from mobilisation to return to civilian life, with the involvement of civilian psychologists.
Ukrainian service members can also receive consultations from psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists, as well as undergo rehabilitation after injuries.
