First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Artem Nekrasov reported that the country's nuclear power plants have been forced to reduce their output. According to him, this is a direct consequence of large-scale and systematic Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
“Due to large-scale and systematic Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, nuclear power plants have been forced to reduce generation output. The return to nominal levels will occur gradually, as soon as energy workers restore the networks damaged by the shelling,” the official emphasised during a briefing.
As Nekrasov noted, Russian troops continue to attack power generation facilities and substations through which electricity is transmitted to consumers. As a result of these shelling incidents, a portion of the population has been left without electricity in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions.
Emergency repair work is ongoing in all regions where the security situation permits. The situation remains most difficult in the capital region. Grid restrictions are being applied in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast due to serious damage to energy equipment. Repair crews are working around the clock.
Emergency outages are also in effect in Kharkiv Oblast. The cause was damage to equipment resulting from previous attacks and a decrease in voltage levels in the high-voltage network. Hourly outage schedules will be resumed after the situation stabilises.
