Strategic significance of Kostiantynivka for the enemy
Sergiy Khomynskyi, press officer of the 100th Separate Mechanised Brigade, detailed the current situation on the Kostiantynivka direction in a Slawa.TV broadcast. According to him, combat operations there remain extremely intense. The main goal of the Russian occupiers is to capture the city to obtain a bridgehead for a further offensive towards Kramatorsk.
Khomynskyi emphasised that claims by Kremlin propagandists about full control over Kostiantynivka are a lie. In reality, the city is under constant fire, and Ukrainian defenders are giving a decisive stand against the enemy.
Intensity of combat operations and enemy losses
«У Костянтинівці точаться вуличні бої. Сили оборони України, зокрема наша 100-та окрема механізована бригада, дають відсіч російським окупантам і знищують ворога у промислових масштабах» ("Street fighting is taking place in Kostiantynivka. The Defence Forces of Ukraine, in particular our 100th Separate Mechanised Brigade, are repelling Russian occupiers and destroying the enemy on an industrial scale"), Khomynskyi emphasised.
He noted that Russian command ignores the massive personnel losses, continuing to throw new forces into the battle. Occupiers are trying to advance forward, even though their soldiers are dying every hour and every minute.
State of city infrastructure
The press officer compared the current situation in Kostiantynivka with the previous battles for Toretsk, where the 100th Mechanised Brigade held the defence for 15 months. At that time, the city was practically completely destroyed, and its battle entered the history of the war as one of the longest.
«Костянтинівка — це зараз самісіньке пекло війни. Це, мабуть, найспекотніше місце на фронті. Звичайно, підстав називати Костянтинівку "живим містом" уже немає. Хоча, знову ж таки, — з чим порівнювати» ("Kostiantynivka is now the very hell of war. It is probably the hottest spot on the front. Of course, there is no longer any reason to call Kostiantynivka a 'living city'. Although, again, — what is there to compare it with"), the press officer said.
At the same time, Khomynskyi clarified that Kostiantynivka has not yet suffered such total destruction as Toretsk. The city still retains remnants of high-rise and private housing, although all buildings are in a damaged state.
